violence against women

On March 16, 2005 the Bulgarian Parliament passed the Law for protection against domestic violence.

This Law is the result of so many years hard efforts of the Bulgarian Gender Research Foundation, all the lawyers that we are working with and other NGOs in Bulgaria which managed to lobby and fight together for this initiative. The BGRF would like to thank to all our partners, colleagues and friends for supporting and farthing in us during all these years! Special compliments to the Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights!

We are very grateful to our funders - NOVIB, Open Society Institute, CIDA, UNIFEM, Global Fund for Women, USAID, Swiss cooperation-Sofia, AWID, Mama cash, ASTRA and all the others - without their support the help that we provided and continue to provide to the victims of domestic violence would not be possible. The process of the drafting of the Law for protection against domestic violence is also realized with their support.

Special thanks to the Bulgarian Parliament and especially to the following member of the BP - Marina Dikova, Anelia Mingova, Teodora Konstantinova and others.

Special thanks to the Bulgarian Institutions - Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, Ministry of Justice, the Police, the Judges, the Prosecutors and the radios, TVs, newspapers and magazines that we are working with.
