The BGRF has started working on a project “Raising awareness and active campaign on gender dimensions of poverty in Bulgaria”

27 July 2007

The BGRF is implementing the project as a part of Bulgarian Platform of the European Women’s Lobby and as a focal point of Social Watch Coalition in Bulgaria, with the kind support of Oxfam-Novib. The project will be implemented in partnership with BEPA – the Bulgarian- European Partnership Association. The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness and to contribute to eradication of poverty among some marginalized groups of women in Bulgaria - through information, policy and legislative changes at national and local levels. The thematic areas include broad social issues – social justice, social and economic rights, fight against poverty and social exclusion, gender issues, antidiscrimination, vulnerable groups, including women, girls, children. Actions are planned to contribute to formulation of recommendations and policies- strategies, programmes, plans, or respective legislation, at national and local level for monitoring and further eradication among some vulnerable groups of women. Excluded groups and women in particular will take part in the problem formulation, in the analysis of the situation, in the strategic planning phase of the campaign. They will be also involved in the activities, which will provide space for advocacy actions and thus making their voice heard. The campaign is aimed at empowering grassroots groups for holding accountable the institutions for concrete policies and budget commitments in view of achieving compliance with the Millennium Development Goals. In the framework of the project a wide advocacy and media campaign will be conducted. Reports and information materials as part of the campaign of the GCAP (Global campaign against poverty) will be elaborated and disseminated. Seminars and meetings at local and regional level with local authorities, NGOs, vulnerable groups are planned. The BGRF and partners will produce the first edition of special White bands in Bulgaria for all these events and will widely disseminate them.
