Legal Literacy and empowerment of women on their social-economic rights

With the financial support of the Global Fund for Women

The project was implemented in 1999-2000 as a logical continuation of the research project “Strengthening citizens participation in the privatization process”, intended to raise the awareness of women on their social and economic rights.

 Main activities:

• Dissemination of the research results throughout the country;
• Preparing a manual on basic women’s social-economic rights;
• Lobbying the institutions for legislative changes;
• Participation of representatives of the BGRF in the elaboration of draft legislation and model for a national mechanism on equal opportunities.

 Main results:

• Two big economic literacy and empowerment seminars in the country with more than 90 participants;
• Publication of the manual on women’s social-economic rights;
• Elaboration and presentation of an Alternative report to the UNGASS Beijing+5 (2000);
• Participation in the working group drafting the equal opportunity law;
• Enhancement of research and analysis capacity of the group.
