Sustainable cooperation between police and NGOs in Sofia and Plovdiv

Main goal: Elaboration and implementation of European standards for supporting and providing help to victims of Domestic violence and sexual abuse

Period of Project’s implementation: August, 2004 – September, 2005

The Project is implemented in the framework of Community Policing Strategy and it is possible thanks to the financial support of the Open Society Institute – Sofia and Canadian Agency for International Development (CIDA).

Participants in the Project:

• National Police Directorate, Regional Department of the Ministry of Interior – Sofia and Regional Department of the Ministry of Interior - Plovdiv;
• Lawyers from Sofia and Plovdiv;
• Representatives from Sofia and Plovdiv

Main activities:

• Establishment of “safety places” for providing first consultation from lawyers and police officers to victims.
• Working meetings with representatives of the Police for discussing the necessity legal changes in order to ensure effective protection to victims of DV and sexual crimes.
• Drafting new legal provisions
• Monitoring of Police departments in cases of DV and sexual crimes.
• Organising seminars for representatives from the Police, national institutions and local authorities.
• Publications in field of DV and sexual crimes
