Democratisation of the civil society in Serbia through establishment of a network of lawyers providing free legal aid for women victims of domestic violence

Project performed in partnership with the Autonomous Women Center against Sexual Violence in Belgrade, with the financial support of Open Society Foundation, Sofia

 Aim of the project:

the establishment of a network of lawyers providing free legal aid for women, victims of violence in Serbia.

Activities:

• Two international seminars in Belgrade;
• Training for five Serbian lawyers in Bulgaria;
• A research report “Access to Justice for Women Victims of Domestic Violence: the need for legal aid system” was published. The research aimed at studying the existing conditions and opportunities for setting up in Bulgaria a system providing legal aid to women victims of domestic violence with the participation of the State in view of facilitating their access to justice.

As a follow up of the project both organizations decided to work for the establishment of a regional network of lawyers providing free legal aid for victims of violence and to organize lobbying campaigns for improving the legislation in the field.
