Pilot study on HRV /honour related violence/ in Bulgaria - the challenge for intervention institutions
The issue of HRV is at the intersection of several human rights problems, which characterize the Bulgarian reality as well - the problem of women’s rights and violence against women, of child’s rights, of social-economic rights and the marginalization of some vulnerable groups of the society, of religious rights and stereotypes and the clash of some traditional practices with the universal human rights, etc. And since it is a problem of human rights, it clearly requires the attention and the reaction of the state, whatever is the identified extent of the phenomenon. In parallel, it deserves to be a focus for the NGO work as well, given its multi-faceted HR aspects.
For Bulgaria HRV and its extent is a hidden phenomenon and through this study the BGRF is bringing it to light for the first time. This first survey gives us inspiration and new perspectives for further research in the field of violence- for studying in depth different forms of violence, different groups at risk, for “mapping” the manifestations of a specific form of violence in Bulgaria, for in-depth analysis of legislation and suggestions for legislative changes, etc.
